COURSE ONE: Building a Character
Ever wondered how actors “become” the character? How is it they can be so believable? How do they make their voice do that? During this course, we will be opening the curtain on some of these often-asked questions
This fun and interactive three-day workshop will teach you how to build your own character from scratch and how to develop the components of what makes someone act the way they do.
What will I learn?
During this course we will be:
- Exploring the voice itself, its physical apparatus; how we can position our tongues, teeth and mouths to change the sound of a character.
- Exploring different speech patterns; using tone, intonation, and the melody of the voice to best effect.
- Learning how to use pause and pace within a speech.
- Playing around with the body language and movement to grow our characters.
The course will culminate with your own finished recording of a character’s speech. This monologue will be uploaded to the Dramatis Online Stage and you will also be sent a copy for posterity or to share with family and friends.
What level is this aimed at?
While this course is in-depth, it is aimed at anyone, whatever stage of acting they are at; even total beginners. We offer an easy to follow approach where you will be guided every step of the way!
When will this be held?
The course will be held over three days (Wednesday 3rd to Friday 5th June). We will meet on Zoom three times a day: once as a group and twice for one-to-one tuition. This online teaching will be two hours in total (and you will be given tasks to work on by yourself for the rest of the day).
How much is the course?
Bearing in mind the current pandemic we are reducing all of our class and course prices by 40% and so you can participate in this course for just £45.00
You will need to have access to a computer or tablet that can host the Zoom software. You will also need to be able to send a video clip via either Whats App, Dropbox or Google Drive.
